CrossFit Kids was founded in 2004 by Jeff and Mikki Martin and is a method for teaching Greg Glassman’s CrossFit to children, ages 3-18. Based on the principle of Mechanics => Consistency => Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance, and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means that consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children. Further, the needs of second graders and high school varsity wrestlers differ by degree and not kind; the program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status one can find in a class full of kids. CrossFit Kids is designed to be minimalist; it is inexpensive and often requires little or no equipment, allowing a wide array of socioeconomic groups an opportunity to be physically fit and physically active throughout their lives.CrossFit Kids programs can be found in over 1,800 gyms and more than 1,000 schools worldwide.

The excerpt above was taken straight from the www.CrossFitKids.com ‘About Us’ section. Here at CrossFit Manta Ray, our Kids Program embodies the same principles set forth in the Overview of the course and we fully adhere to the CrossFit Kids mission of “Doing what is best for children.”

We focus on perfect movement first! Now is the time for your child to be learning how to properly move; and not after they have developed bad or inefficient habits that will be difficult to correct. Humans are born with the flexibility and strength to properly squat, deadlift, etc. and this is lost over time as we demonstrate bad posture and don’t consistently use our full range of motion. So, we practice Mechanics, Consistency, and THEN Intensity to ensure that your child is moving safely and efficiently, on a consistent basis, before we crank up any intensity. This way we can ensure that your child has a strong foundation of proper movement that will not be lost over time and will translate into their adult life, as well as now, in their sports and other athletic ventures.

Also, CrossFit Kids is Broad, General, and Inclusive (B.I.G.). This means that all classes and workouts are completely scalable to allow your child to work at their level and always be able to actively participate, regardless of current fitness level! At first, adding Intensity to your child’s workout may be within a game played in one of our Kid’s classes. Remember, CrossFit Kids is meant to be FUN and what is more fun to a child than playing a game? However, these games are structured to teach children foundational movements and give them a great work out all while keeping them engaged.


 

Our Goal

Our main goal at CrossFit Manta Ray Kids is to create an environment where your child is excited to come participate. During our program, we strive to improve your child’s overall athleticism by
training the 10 Elements of Fitness described by the CrossFit Kids methodology. Here at CMR Kids, we provide a safe and effective foundation for children to grow athletically so that it can show on the sports field, or more importantly, in their everyday lives, from this point on!

Ages

We offer CrossFit Kids classes for kids ages 7-13.

Class Structure

Classes are 45min in duration. Classes consist of a Warm Up, Focus, WOD and Game/Challenge. During each portion of class we are furthering our education on CrossFit Kid’s Foundational Movements. We stress the importance of proper movement, and consistency with proper movement, before adding intensity. Classes are high energy and fast paced to keep your child engaged throughout the workout. Games and challenges are added into classes to include aspects such as teamwork and problem solving.

Pricing

For your first child, pricing is 75$ per month. Every child after that is $60 per month. You may choose to pay per month, but there is a cap for the number of children that may be enrolled per month. To guarantee your child’s spot for coming months, choose one of our commitment options!
